Author Essay

Dear Readers :

I am so excited about the release of Her Knight’s Quest, the second book in my Warriors of the Mist series! Damned to an eternity of serving their gods, the story of the five warriors continues as they struggle to contain the growing evil of Duke Keirthan as it spreads across Agathia. Having defeated their first enemy, the warriors must now divide their forces and scatter in different directions, something they haven’t done since before they first became the avatars of their gods.

Much of the book follows the story of Sir Duncan. I love all of the warriors, but I think there’s something extra special about him. At heart, Duncan is a scholar, a man who would have been content to live a quiet life surrounded by books and sharing his love of knowledge with a wife and family. Instead, he has spent centuries standing strong at the side of his captain and friends. Like the others he prays this will be their last mission and that they will all find peace at last when they face judgment on the summer solstice.

My favorite scene in the book comes when Duncan finally convinces the heroine, Lady Lavinia, to allow him access to the secret library that the sisters of the abbey are sworn to protect. She watches as Duncan enters the room, his eyes wide in wonder at the amazing collection of books and scrolls. Lavinia immediately recognizes him as a kindred spirit as he wanders through the room, pausing to trace a title with his fingertips or to read a brief passage before moving on to the next book that catches his eye. It is that moment that the lonely scholar and a woman who has good reason not to trust truly connect.

I hope all of you enjoy Her Knight’s Quest!

Alexis
